Important definitions around the CRC 768

Cycle management

Cycle management refers to the planning, management, and control of cycles and their interactions. Collaborative Research Center SFB 768 focussed on innovation process cycles from the disciplines of engineering, information technology, and economic and social sciences. This entails an exploration of current trends and requirements in the shaping of innovation processes. For innovating companies, this represents a new perspective on how to deal with present and future challenges.

Cycle

A cycle is a (temporally and structurally) recurring process pattern that can be divided into phases. Cycles are therefore always associated with repetition, phases, duration, triggers, and effects.

Product-service system

For the purposes of SFB 768, a product-service system (PSS) based on technical products has product and service components, whereby the products are composed of elements from the fields of mechanics, electrics/electronics, and software.

In the context of cycle management for innovation processes, the dynamics and complexity involved in understanding, planning, and managing product-service systems are of particular interest.

Accordingly, cycle management is concerned with the structuring of PSS, with the processes involved in providing PSS, and with supporting methods and tools.
