Mapping Controversies in Science, Technology and Architecture

In this seminar students will undertake the mapping of a live controversy in collaboration with students from social science and computer science courses. The course offers students the opportunity to experience interdisciplinary collaboration and to deploy visual methods and skills in an applied context.

This seminar also provides a theoretical and practical introduction into a set of concepts, research strategies, methodological tools and analytical techniques that have been developed in the field of science and technology studies for the study of controversies.

1.Gain experience of working in an interdisciplinary group, mapping one live controversy with students from social science and computer science.
2.Learn a range of methodologies used for mapping controversies in the field of science and technology studies.
3.Produce a visual controversy map and reflect on the role of visual methods for representing social and technical complexity.
4.Critically distinguish between theories of controversy
