Energy-aware Scheduling

As part of our research endeavor on power management in the automotive domain, new operating system features had to be researched.

One key feature was the extension of classical process scheduling with power management aspects. Embedded systems often run (soft) real-time schedules. These schedules must conform to the requirements of the associated function.

Typically, embedded systems run critical tasks. First of all research has focused only on function safety. The field of energy and power management was largely neglected.

It was our goal, to provide the operating system facilities to combine scheduling for processes and energy/power in distributed systems. This should be done while maintaining a high level of operational safety.

Research Highlights:

  • Coordination of Operating System Components
  • Scheduling of Energy/Power and Processes
