Stabtragwerke – wie Gitter-, Fachwerk- und Vierendeelträger – sind seit Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts etablierte Konstruktionstypen. In den letzten etwa zwanzig Jahren lässt sich der Trend erkennen, dass von den etablierten Systemen abgewichen wird und zunehmend komplexere, irreguläre Stabtragwerke geplant und realisiert werden.

Elastic Mechanisms of Grid Structures
Theory, Control and Application
There are manifold applications for layered grid structures as they pose great potentials for lightweight and efficient structures. Curved geometries may be achieved by elastic deformation of the grids members. Besides advantages in construction using straight elements, there are also possibilities to easily transform whole structures. If the deformation follows a prescribed path, this may be called mechanism. In mechanical engineering, “elastic mechanisms” are said to be easy in maintenance and economical.
