THE POLITICS OF URBAN PLANNING AND DESIGN

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Urban planning and design are often thought as being non-political. In this seminar we will question this idea, and ask if apart from politicians there might be other actors who have politics? We will explore the politics of different concrete cases such as: designing in preparation of natural disasters, planning in Soviet Russia, and contemporary mobility planning in Munich. In addition, we will explore the roles of often overlooked actors such as disabled persons, defecation infrastructures, numbers, and bureaucrats.
