„Imagine the following situation“ - So did the design tasks we asked students to respond to. The situation involved a complex socio-environmental controversy; a situation of radical uncertainty, in which certain entities such as birds and kids begin to suffer from unknown causes, and different actors - an amateur bird-watcher association, parents of sick kids, consumers of a bio-cooperative, etc, engage in the collective exploration of the situation. The task was to design a political space, where the heterogeneous actors and entities involved in this problematic situation are not simply represented, but can put themselves in the presence of the others. We need a space where they can bring all the things sustaining their claims, where they can learn from each other, assess each other’s claims, and eventually work out their differences and come to some sort of agreement about how to live together. We provided a list of the actors that need to be involved, as well as the spatial and functional requirements resulting from their presence and the things they bring to this parliament. We assumed that the list was not exhaustive and that students might consider necessary adding actors, requirements and/or constraints.
