Vanessa Wergin completes dissertation with honors

Vanessa Wergin, scientific assistant at the chair of sport psychology, has been researching collective sports team collapse since 2015.

The aim of the research project was to gain fundamental insights into the processes and mechanisms of the mostly unexplored phenomenon of collective team collapse. During her doctorate, Ms. Wergin developed a process model for collective sports team collapse through qualitative examinations. The model describes different causes of team collapses and explains their connections and concatenations. First factors of the process model have already been investigated quantitatively. They are supposed to offer practitioners initial pointers for possible strategies when dealing with sports teams in pressure situations.

Vanessa Wergin completed her dissertation at the end of October with honors. Prof. Dr. Jürgen Beckmann, Prof. Dr. Clifford Mallett (University of Queensland) and Günter Amesberger (University of Salzburg) supervised and reviewed the doctoral thesis.
