Fujitsu offers the following Master's Thesis at its Munich office: "Boost /390-Binaries on a x86 platform"
Details
Fujitsu's mainframe operating system BS2000 originally runs on /390 hardware. Nowadays there exists an emulation mode to run the system also on x86_64 platforms. For this purpose customer applications available as /390-binaries are divided into basic-blocks and compiled into x86 code by a Just-in-Time (JIT) compiler. The aim of the thesis is to examine if a complete disassembling of the binaries into an intermediate language and, after an anylisis and optimization phase, the compilation into static binaries gives any advantage over the JIT solution.
Prerequisites
You should be familiar with the following technologies:
- x86_64 architecture
- ESA/390 architecture
- compiler construction
- Linux (kernel/system) and C
Furthermore you should be interested to work on mission critical applications.
