The 17th International Architecture Exhibition "La Biennale di Venezia", curated by Hashim Sarkis, is dedicated to the question How Will We Live Together?
Over 100 participants* from 46 countries show their ideas and designs on the forward-looking topic. In 2021, the TUM Department of Architecture is represented at the renowned show with three contributions.
Among others, Prof. Ferdinand Ludwig and his partner Daniel Schönle present the film The architect as a planetary gardener* at the German pavilion:
2038 – The New Serenity, invites you to discover a story between fact and fiction. In a series of films, it tells the history of a better world in which everything, though imperfect, is better in some pretty profound and radical ways. Based on the knowledge and visions of a collaborative team of international experts from Architecture, Art, Ecology, Economy, Philosophy, Politics, Science and Technology, team 2038 strives to explore our future society through prefigurative politics, illustrating modes of organization and social relationships to come. One of these films is a conversation with Ferdinand Ludwig and Daniel Schönle, founders of ludwig.schönle | Baubotanik Architecture Urbanism. Baubotanik is a term that describes a building method in which architectural structures are created through the interaction of technical joining and plant growth. The term entails the practice of designing and building living structures using living plants. Starting off in the early 2000s as the Baubotanik Research Group at the University of Stuttgart and later Technical University of Munich, the practice today consists a global network of researches and designers. In 2035, Ludwig and Schönle won the Pritzker Prize together with a Plane Tree.
