Research Perspectives in Architecture

Which methodological approaches are used in research on architecture, landscape architecture and urban design? And which genuine architectural methods can be transferred to scientific practice? An international conference will address these questions. The two-day event takes place on July 4-5, 2019 at the Vorhoelzer Forum of the TUM Department of Architecture.

The conference «Research Perspectives in Architecture»  aims to present and discuss a spectrum of research questions and methodological approaches in architecture. Podium discussions focussing on various topics will highlight different perspectives of research in architecture.

The first day of the conference will focus on different methodologies and research approaches; it will aim to display the diversity of methods in architecture. The methodological spectrum will be presented in brief lectures on methods of current research and doctoral projects. The second day broadens the methodological discourse and provides an exemplary insight into methodologically independent research programs in architecture. Doctoral students are given the opportunity to present their research work to the critique of scientists with different methodological emphases. As part of the conference, a lecture by Prof. em. Dietmar Eberle (ETH Zurich) will be held at the Oskar-von-Miller-Forum on July 04, 2019.

The TUM event is organized by the Chair of Architectural Design and Conception and the Professorship of Green Technologies. It is funded by the DFG - German Research Foundation and takes place within BauHow5, the European alliance of five leading research-intensive European universities for architecture.
